Press Release 10/25/17- Student in Possession of a Firearm

On Wednesday, October 25th, San Ramon Valley Unified School District personnel notified the San Ramon Police Department of an incident that occurred at Twin Creeks Elementary School on October 24th, 2017.

On the evening of October 24th, a student from Twin Creeks Elementary School reported to his parents that he witnessed another student in possession of a firearm on school grounds earlier in the day.  The student reported seeing the firearm in the other student’s backpack.

After receiving this information, Officers from the San Ramon Police Department contacted the eight year old third grader and his parents at their residence in San Ramon.  The firearm in question was located within the student’s backpack.  At the time the firearm was located, it was loaded with a magazine containing 9mm ammunition.

As of this time, there are no reports of the student threatening any other students or staff, brandishing the firearm, or threats involving the use of the firearm.

The investigation is still ongoing and more details will be released at the conclusion of the investigation.  It should be noted that no additional firearms were located within the residence and the school is taking the appropriate administrative action.

The San Ramon Police Department would like to remind everybody to speak with their children about firearms safety and reporting suspicious activities right away.  Also, firearms safety applies to everybody.  Failing to properly store a firearm that is accessible to a child is a criminal offense.
