Weekly Arrest Log – 3/6/17-3/12/17

In our continual effort to keep the public informed on what is going on in San Ramon, we publish a weekly log of the arrests made by members of the San Ramon Police Department. A link to this arrest log will be posted weekly on Twitter, Facebook, and also distributed on Nextdoor for those who live in San Ramon.

Below you will find a brief summary of the arrests made by Officers from the San Ramon Police Department between Monday, March 6, 2017 and Sunday March 12, 2017.

Monday, March 6th, 2017

– During the early morning hours, A 35-year-old male was arrested for possession of a controlled weapon (metal knuckles).

Tuesday, March 7, 2017

– During the morning, a 47-year-old male was arrested for domestic violence.

Wednesday, March 8, 2017

– During the evening, a 32-year-old female was arrested for hit and run and driving under the influence of alcohol.

Thursday, March 9, 2017

– During the early morning hours, a 22-year-old male was arrested for driving under the influence.

Friday, March 10th, 2017

-During the morning, a 20-year-old male was arrested for an outstanding warrant related to disturbing the peace and obstructing the official duties of a peace officer.

Saturday, March 11th, 2017

-Just after midnight, a 23-year-old male was arrested for driving under the influence.

-During the morning, a 30-year-old male was arrested for an outstanding warrant related to a felony violation of driving under the influence.

-During the early afternoon, a 48-year-old male was arrested for being under the influence of a controlled substance and a probation violation.

-During the evening, a 26-year-old female was arrested for an outstanding warrant for failing to appear in court as directed by a judge.

Sunday, March 12th, 2017

-During the early evening, a 22-year-old female was arrested for driving on a suspended license, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance and a probation violation.

-During the same incident as mentioned above, a 32-year-old male was arrested for false impersonation, an outstanding warrant, probation violation, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

    We debated including this information but from our perspective, it was not pertinent to the information we are trying to present to the public. We know where the individuals arrested are from, and some are from right here in San Ramon. Our concern is creating a divide within our region associated with where people live. The goal of this log is to inform the San Ramon Community of the arrests made by San Ramon Police Officers. It is not to point out where those arrested reside. We do not see any benefit to providing that information. It does not provide a crime prevention benefit, or a public safety benefit, because you cannot tell where someone is from by looking at them.

    I hope you understand our perspective . If you have any further questions, don’t hesitate to ask.

  2. Monty,
    Just before 8 am on Thursday, the victim was taking a laptop and projector bag out of a vehicle when an unknown suspect came from behind and grabbed the victim’s property. The victim fought back but unfortunately the suspect took the property by force and ran south on San Ramon Valley Bvld. The traffic was diverted to allow for the K9 to search for the suspect. Unfortunately he was not found but our Detectives are continuing to investigate the incident.

    We will not be releasing any information which could jeopardize victim confidentiality. Any arrest associated with this type of sensitive incident will remain generic, without any information associated with the location of occurrence. Once we publish the incident summary report, these types of incidents are automatically removed when the report is generated. The report is then double checked, with human eyes, to ensure none of these incidents are included.

    We take victim confidentiality very seriously at San Ramon PD and we do not want to jeopardize that in any manner.

  4. Hi Denton,
    I appreciate all of your efforts toward transparency. I have significantly mixed feelings about posting detailed information regarding the location that each reported incident was generated from. I know that some folks have indicated that details will be “helpful” to them but I think there is more “curiosity” than potential for practical use. I am most concerned that surfacing location details might have a “chilling effect” on folks’ interest in reporting particularly sensitive incidents like domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse, etc. I think we need to have a thoughtful balance between the general public’s “need” to know, and maintaining sufficient confidentiality to allow our excellent police force to do their best work.

Here are the basics of the new law…if you use your cell phone while driving your vehicle, the phone must be mounted in your vehicle and any use of the phone has to be done by voice commands after one-touch operation of your phone. All cell phone operations while driving must be done in this manner, or you will be in violation of California law. You can buy any of these cell phone mounts through almost any retailer, that is a matter of preference. The mount is simply the device that holds the cell phone. The manner of cell phone operation is what changed on January 1st. Hope this makes sense.

  20. Karen – We decided to leave out that information on purpose. Our goal with this log is to inform the San Ramon residents of what type of arrests we are making throughout each week. Starting tomorrow we will be releasing a calls for service report and if people are interesting in finding out more details about each arrest, they will be able to cross reference the arrest listed with the calls for service log. The log will be posted in downloadable and searchable Excel spreadsheet format. Those who are interested will be able to search for incidents by street name through this format.   21. If came by the police station someone there could give me the information and after I buy the device I could get some help in installing it or telling me where I can go to get it installed and learn to use it. Can you do that for me or advise me says:

    I’m not sure how to write this or who to send it to but I have a question. I know there’s a new law as of the beginning of January that we are supposed to have some kind of a device that we put on our dashboard to hold our telephone and that we can only use if we’re going to be talking and driving I may not of said that well but my point is it supposed to be a hands-free device and were supposed to use it. I don’t know what it is or where to get it or how to mount it and I want to comply with the law so I was wondering if I came by the police station someone there could give me the information and after I buy the device I could get some help in installing it or telling me where I can go to get it installed and learn to use it.   25. I hope everyone has noted how many of these incidents are alcohol or drug related and that everyone is driving defensively to avoid encounters with those driving under the influence. Any one of us can become a victim of crime and DUI’s driven by substance use disorders. Our organization, the National Coalition Against Prescription Drug Abuse, ADAPT and Teen Esteem are all prevention groups working in the SRV to reduce substance abuse that can lead to these sorts of incidents, including home and car break ins. Thanks SRPD for sharing this information with us to help us understand the types of crime we’re seeing in our neighborhoods so we can take action upstream help prevent and avoid being impacted by it.
