At 11:55pm on Friday, October 14th, San Ramon Police Officers were dispatched to the area of Walt Disney Elementary for a reported disturbance. While they were responding, the individual reporting the incident stated the subjects involved were now in front of his home and were in a physical altercation.
When officers arrived, they found a male victim bleeding from numerous lacerations and injuries throughout his face and body. The victim stated he confronted several teenagers who were causing a disturbance on the school playground and on the access trail between Walt Disney Elementary and Pebble Place. While speaking with one of the individuals, the victim was struck in the head by one of the suspects. Multiple suspects began punching and kicking the victim and ultimately a suspect choked the victim until he lost consciousness. As a result of this attack, the victim suffered a broken nose, a fractured cheekbone, a bruised kidney, and numerous lacerations and bruising throughout his body.
San Ramon PD personnel began investigating this incident immediately and quickly identified several suspects. Over the past several days, San Ramon PD Detectives wrote numerous search and arrest warrants associated with this incident. On Tuesday morning, October 18th, a search warrant was served at the San Ramon home of 19 year old Jordan Manibusan. Manibusan was placed under arrest for violations of Penal Codes 245(a) – assault with a deadly weapon, and 243(d) – felony battery. Manibusan was booked at the County Jail in Martinez and is currently being held with a bail of $80,000.
Earlier this morning, San Ramon PD Detectives served three additional warrants associated with this incident. Zachary Kennedy, a 20-year-old resident of Danville, was arrested at his home and booked at the County Jail in Martinez for violations of Penal Codes 245(a) – assault with a deadly weapon, and 243(d) – felony battery. Kennedy is also being held with a bail of $80,000.
In addition to the suspects mentioned above, two 17-year-old juveniles (Both San Ramon residents) were taken into police custody at their homes this morning. Both juveniles were arrested for violations of Penal Codes 245(a) – assault with a deadly weapon, and 243(d) – felony battery. They are being held at the County Juvenile Hall Detention Facility in Martinez.

The kids (all college aged) have been described as:
“turds that need to be taught a lesson”
“animals” x4
“savage” x3
“an uncivilized animal” (nice combo)
“trash”
not to mention snide remarks that they were:
“likely doing stuff that wouldn’t be allowed in their own families’ homes/yards.” (we know you’re talking about drugs)
“lucky that the man they confronted did not have a gun.”
And finally, Erik Roomet, in his frustration about somebody’s different opinion about how to keep the peace, suggested: “I hope you get savagely beaten next time you have a minor confrontation.” What a fine idea for promoting peace and happiness in our community.
“Neighbor in the hood for 20+ years” put it very nicely. The four kids obviously reacted the wrong way, leading to the tragic beating of the man. But I hope we can find a more passionate way to understand this. Many commenters made unjust assumptions based on the age and race of the suspects and made up their minds exactly how they should be treated and dealt with. None of the commenters, including me, know the full story. But if one white man claims he got unprovokedly beaten up by four brown kids hanging out at the park, I know who’s story most of the old white residents of San Ramon would believe. Further, I think I can predict how the mostly old and white criminal justice system would side on a case like this.
The bottom line is that I don’t think sending these kids to prison will help anything. Incarceration statistically leads to a life of crime that will not do the world or our community any good. At this time of their lives these kids should be helped to earn their college degrees or vocational training or getting jobs so that they can truly benefit the community. Makes one think about the goals of our criminal justice system.

I can’t believe anyone would come on here and defend these animals. Any grown-man, champion Jiu Jitsu and wrestling competitor could have taken a normal dude to the ground, choked him out, and walked away…WALKED AWAY. The dude would wake up several seconds later confused and groggy and it would have been over. They nearly killed him because they are turds that need to be taught a lesson by the justice system.

I too was a victim of a violent crime at about the same age as Casey. Dumb ass me, a lover of life and people in general, decided to try to separate two stangers who were friends from an argument. I was knocked unconscious with a pipe, cracking my skull open by a unknown third party. The victim (me) had innocent and good intentions, quite similar to what Casey had described in his interview. I personally know Casey and know his demeanor as a lover, peacekeeper and never known him as a fighter. He’s the type to try to extinguish a bad situation and I know he wouldn’t want these individuals to be confronted by police just for having fun in the playground or back of Disney. If they were loud enough to have the neighborhood hear them then he as most know, we on the block -watch and report disturbances if it gets out of hand. Even I’ve been guilty of this, just as others on the block and surrounding areas too. Sometimes it gets to loud or too crazy and it’s a nice gesture of this hood to speak their minds and give warnings before the police have to get involved. We’re all for having fun but not at the extreme expense of others. I’ve warned many kids hanging out around the fairways by my home that it’s time to shut it down and that the cops are coming. ” Go home or go elsewhere” is the common call out. Usually I have been greeted with “thanks”, “we’re out of here” or “go f yourself” in which I go my own way with one last warning. There’s a right way to react and there’s a wrong way to react. Unfortunately this time for these kids, was the wrong way. If it could be redone over I’d hope to think that all involved would have done things differently, especially the senseless violence that followed. There is no room for violence in our town or others. (On another note;This was not Sport, but it seems the sport of violence may have had it’s own part in this.)
I’m disturbed that this has brought back bad memories of mine, and for my family, also for others, I am saddened for all involved – including those of you who read this.

I am absolutely appalled that anyone is defending these kids. Reguardless of how the confrontation started, many of you seem to think that a group of kids had the right to savagely beat and attempt to kill another citizen who was on his own. I can’t say I know all the facts but I do know some, one of which is that the victim(yes, he IS the victim) was continued to be assaulted after losing consciousness. It is apparent to me that anyone defending these kids has a personal connection with them and are trying to cover up their own embarrassment for the horrible actions these kids took. They all deserve to be jailed for attempted murder. You people suck. I hope you get savagely beaten next time you have a minor confrontation.

Surely if these four were simply trying to defend their female friend, the four of them should have been able to restrain the victim (or who Danielle and Destiny characterize as the instigator) and call the police to rescue her and arrest him rather than beat him to a bloody pulp and flee the scene. No, they fled because they knew they were guilty of a horrible criminal assault. And why were they “hanging” at Walt Disney school in a quiet neighborhood at that time of night rather than at one of their own homes? I suspect they were likely doing stuff that wouldn’t be allowed in their own families’ homes/yards. How can anyone defend a four-against-one beat-down? Regardless of what started the confrontation, they obviously used criminal force as their way of dealing with it. They acted like cowards and ran. Why would they leave the scene if they believed their actions were justified as self defense? This was shameful and unforgivable, animal-like behavior that will alter their lives forever and bring pain to all of their friends and family members. Ladies, you will do these young people a favor if you stop making excuses and being enablers, encourage them to take responsibility for their actions, and ask the victim, their families, and God for forgiveness!

I don’t think the victim stood a chance against a World Champion Martial Artist…maybe Danielle needs to come forward since she thinks the truth lies with the men who almost killed an obviously defenseless man. If they felt victimized (because the four men charged were so helpless), they could have restrained the person they tried to kill…they behaved as animals, not as humans.
Our police department is extremely professional and they don’t need to “make a case” – that is done with the courts and the prosecutor and the evidence in front of them. How about coming forward with your truth Danielle. I’m sure the police would be more than happy to speak with you.

The TRUTH is that there is a man still in the hospital that nearly died at the hands of the people you are defending Danielle and will not be able again to live a normal life because of this brutality. If you think these boys behaved like citizens that you would like roaming the streets of SR…maybe it is time you find a new city to call home.

Danielle, As was posted on nextdoor…., Were you at Walt Disney that night? Are you a witness? If you are, then you need to report what you saw to the police. If you weren’t there to witness the assault, then you should not be making accusations on here based on things you’ve heard. The victim was laying on the ground unconscious being kicked in the back and getting viciously stomped on his head when another neighbor ran out to help him.

I don’t need you to explain anything I have had direct contact with the sergeant and know exactly how things have been run. Unless you can explain to me why facts are being ignored! You the San Ramon police department are ignoring some facts of this case. You are posting one side of all this. I don’t see anywhere in here that states this “victim” left his home to confront and physically put his hands on someone instead of calling the police for disturbance.

They weren’t unarmed, if you read the article it clearly states “assault with a deadly weapon”. They are 19 and 20, and they should deserve to be in jail for attempted murder. We don’t want trash like these guys ruining our great town. Send them away!

This is the type of criminal problem that makes me always advise the police to do whatever it takes to go home safe. Whatever it takes. Always. Those young men causing the problem were very lucky that the man they confronted did not have a gun..
